陳振永

Originated from China, Xin Hui, Shi Tou Xiang, Long Wan Li. Born 1872 and died in 1947 at the age of 75 years.

He moved to Guang Zhou at the age of 13 years. Later at the age of 15 years he travelled to Malaya. Initially he worked for Loke Yew and Loke Yew regarded him highly. Several years later he took out all his savings and partnered with Cheong Yoke Choy and started “Hoong Fatt Tin Mining Company and Kwong Yik Bank Bhd.

In 1928 He and his close friends set up a rice wholesale company called” Hang Fong “. Later he set up another company called “ Chan Wing & Sons Sdn Bhd to manage his business. Several years later he set up Chan Wing & Sons Property Sdn Bhd to deal in property management in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. He became a well known philanthropist, a patriot, a strong believer in education. He even went back to his village in China and set a Chinese Free School.

During the war years in China, he assisted the very old and poor villagers with money . He also donated huge sums of money to his beloved China. Then he set up an army hospital named “ Chan Wing Army Hospital in Kunming, China.

The present day “Istana Negara” in Kuala Lumpur was once his official residence.

In February 1947 he was hospitalized and passed away in Singapore. Later his body was flown back to Kuala Lumpur for burial.
